My stanchions are loose. I was wondering if anyone knows a good product to use when resealing between the stanchion base and the deck. Thanks

We like Boat Life LIfe Caulk...

it's a polysulfide. It's a great sealant and remains flexible. Make sure you have good backing plates.

3M 4200

4200 is also a good sealant. DON'T use 5200 as it's an adhesive

3M 4200

I find that 3m 4200 is good but I can only use it once. The 2nd time I use it, I find it has hardens in the tube. Be aware and store it better than I do. Any recommendations?

Storing 3M 4200 Sealant

I have stored 3M 4200 Sealant up to two years in my freezer without adverse effect. Take it out of the freezer a couple of hours before using. Isn't it strange that they don't tell you this in the instructions?

Rebedding Stanchions

I've resealed most of the stachions on my boat. The surest way to do this is to completely remove the stanchion. I assume yours are also bolted through with a 1/2" or 5/8" bolt and nut.If it's a 5/8" bolt, redrill the hole in your deck at least 1/8" bigger to a 3/4" size. Next, fill the hole with West System Epoxy or similar, then drill to 5/8". West System has a manual on this proceedure (#002-550--Fiberglass Boat Repair

3M 101

I used 101. Here's a blurb from their web site: "Seals between mechanically fastened joints on wood, fiberglass, metal and most plastics; above and below the waterline. Excellent resistance to chemicals, weathering, salt water, and stresses caused by joint movement." It lasts a long time in the tube, too. 4200 is an adhesive/sealant, at about 1/2 the strenght of 5200. It reacts with moisture to cure, which is why it doesn't last once the tube seal is punctured. It cures fast. For stanchions, I think 101 is the right stuff. See link.
