I have recently aquired a 1974 Paceship PY23 that one of the stanchion was forcibly removed. The base-plate is missing. All I have is the pole. Obviously I need to replace the plate but my main concern is how to properly fasten it to the deck. The hole left by the accident is about 3" in diameter and appears to have some softer material inside. I was thinking of filling it with epoxy and using a back-board inside the cabin to run new bolts through, but the cabin ceiling isn't the same fibre-glass as the deck. Apparently there's something in between the 2. Any advice would be most welcome.

First I would remove another stanchion, bring it to a machine shop and have a new plate made or go to the chandlery here and buy a new one. Second, dig out that hole properly and glass w/cloth the bastard. If possible, you may want to include some wood in the hole then glass it. Use a minimum of 2 layers of cloth and lay that glass in thick!

Achoring the plate
How about the backing for the stanchion bolts? The don't go all they way through to the cabin, so I've got to determine how to anchor the base plate.
