We recently bought a 1976 C 27. We want to put backing plates under the stanchions when we rebed them. But the liner is in the way for a complete plate. Will it do any good to put a backing plate on only the outboard two bolts? Any sugestions? Thanks.

a couple of ideas

First you could check out the link below. It's a great site of an indepth recommissioning of a c27. The backing plate technique that she uses is sturdy, but a little too aggressive for my taste. On my c27 a previous owner had teak blocks that were routed to fit the contour on the edge of the liner. It helps to spread the load over a larger area of the liner. The blocks are only about 1" by 1" by 4" or so.

backing plates

we have been using fender washers as backing plates where there isn't enough room for something larger- on winches and stanchions

Thank you for the info. I'm using some fender washers, But on the stanchions I'm going to have to cut the liner. Appreciate the help
