Hey Guys, I need help. The handle to the head door broke this weekend on my 1989 Hunter 30. I removed all the screws to disassemble but the darn thing wouldn't come off. I have no idea how it's fastened. I tried to unscrew the handles from each other by holding one on twisting the other in the opposit direction but that only led to wood cracking sound inside the door. I was thinking about removing the door and installing hanging beads in it's place, but so far my wife isn't convinced. I need advice to help fix the door or words that will convince my wife that beads in place of a door would be great.

Mine broke to. You have to get to the back side of the latch if perko. Four screws hold it on the door once you get it off. You will see a phillps screw that holds the back on, little tumbler broke. $ 45.00 fixes it. NEW ONE West Marina & Boat US, Have OOP's might check ship store.

I need more help!

Here’s the problem, first I’m not sure if it’s a perko lock set, second on the back side it only has two screws securing a face plate and no visible fasteners on the handle. I removed the screws from the face plate on both sides of the door which allowed the face plat to spin freely on the handle. I expected the handle to pull out of the door, it did not. Maybe I need to pull harder? I then tried to unscrew the handle thinking the inside and outside may be threaded together. It didn’t budge an inch. I guess I should mention that I also removed two screws from the latch side, the whole mechanism felt loose when these were removed but it wouldn’t release from the door. Any ideas?
