In reworking my 79 Hunter 33, I have run into a number of instances on my mast and boom where a stainless fastener tapped into aluminum has corroded to such an extent that backing out isn't possible. (Boat has spent its life in gulf coast salt water). I have tried wd 40, PB Blaster, others, nothing seems to do it. Anybody got any suggestions that have worked for you?

Stainless/aluminum corrosion

Terry There is a tool you might be able to use. It's a screw driver that you hit with a hammer which in turn causes the bit to rotate. (Can't remember the name) Let Liquid Wrench soak through the fastenings and then use the tool on it. You should be able to break it free. PAT

File and Crescent Wrench

I recently replaced my boom and had to remove all the hardware. Everything was frozen. Some came out with the impact driver but the screws were so hard they ruined the bits. I finally took a new file to the screw heads and filed two sides flat so I could put a wrench on them and they came out easily. Good luck.

Pat, John, Dave, thanks!

Picked up a ten dollar Great Neck impact driver at the local auto parts place and soon had all three cleats out that had been giving me fits. Found that a small sledge is the proper hammer to use. thanks a lot for the tip. I believe that the PB Blaster helped set the stage for the driver.
