I was out last night for an pleasant sunset cruise and one rowdy female guest spilled red wine (merlot) in my cockpit and stained it. Any ideas on how to get the rose color hue out of my white gel coat? Thanks

Had that happen a few years back but the culprit was chianti. Nasty pink stain in my very oxidized gel coat. I came back a couple days later & it was gone! Either it just got soaked up or evaporated. Makes you go "hmmmmmm." But if it's still there, try oxalic acid or a product called FSR (oxalic acid in gel form) from West Marine. Then wax that gelcoat!

If you don't have some Island Girl pink around, it would be a good idea to get some. I have yet to find a stain or mark it could not remove. See the "gel coat" area on this site. I'd give W D 40 a try; it is a pretty good cleaner also. Goof Off is also good.

try the purple colored degreaser sold in auto...
parts stores. Costs about $5.00/gal and so far I have yet to find a stain it won't take off. Also great for cleaning the soot off the transom and bug stains off the fiberglass. And it takes brake dust off alloy and wire wheels!

Acetone
Acetone or gas on a white cotton cloth. Then fiberglass polish to bring back the shine. Will not hurt the gel....

Advanced method
Gelcoat with stains or severe markings can be restored by using sandpaper. Use 600 grit to begin, wet will be best. The less grit is used as you sand. Last use a compound and wax to bring back the shine. If done with care it will look brand new. I was a Catalina service manager for years, I've done this often. merlot stains
I think you will find that sunlight is the best remover for wine stains. Works on my boat anyway. Girls spilled some on the foredeck and when I returned to attempt to clean it up a few days later; there was no trace. Good Luck
