The display is live, but no info from the mast top transducer...who has the quick way for me to check on the transducer's condition short of climbing 50'....there's a mass of wires at the base with similar color codes....

If you dont find a loose connection, the call Raymarine support and get the 'output voltages' and resistances-Ω for the mast unit ... a go/no-go method to test the mast head without mast climbing. Such values 'may' be in your manual.

If your wind machine is connected to a 'seatalk' network ... check every damn connection in the entire network and especially at autopilot interfaces, etc. Be sure to check the fuses on the course computer for the autopilot if so integrated.

Lightning is not a windmachine's friend .... including lightning from 'thunder snow'.

If you have a junction box in line with the masthead cable(typically near the base of the mast) you can verify if the wind transducer is functioning properly. You will need a DC Voltmeter to perform this check

With the wind instrument turned on check between the following colors using the bare wire as your reference -vdc(ground)

Red Wire = 8+v dc(voltage supply from head unit to the transducer)
Blue Wire = 2 to 6v dc (wind direction from transducer)
Green Wire = 2 to 6v dc (wind direction from transducer)
Yellow Wire= 0 to 8v dc (wind speed from transducer. This signal will varying with changes in wind speed

If the above signals are not present from the wind transducer then there may be break in the cable or the transducer has malfunctioned.

So how do you test the voltages without taking the unit off line you ask?
If you can get behind the display unit it has two thumb screws (2:00 and 5:00 looking at the face) and you can pull the unit. The terminals have enough exposed metal to test with them connected. Before testing for a fault clean all the terminals (both male and female sides) and see it that fixes it. 99.44% of all electrical problems on boats are corroded connections. If every thing checks out voltage wise then the display unit is surly bad. If the voltages are not correct then disconnect them all (draw a picture of colors and locations so you can get them back right) and test each for grounding or open and test the display for 8 volts on the red and a good ground on the black/shield wire. I assume that the seatalk cables are ok as you have power.
If that checks out then you should consider having an exorcism ritual to rid the boat of gremlins and evil spirits.
If you do get an open or ground then it is most likely not the sensors but the wires in between. No real easy way to check except at the mast base. If you have access there then you can test both sides there for open or ground and eliminate the section (display to mast base or mast base to masthead) that does not have the problem.

Put a jumper from the (red) OEM supply plug TO the red wire to supply 12v.
Measure the vdc output on the green, blue, yellow ... vs. ground.
