ST60 Speed Transducer Replacement

I have a two year old ST60 Speed Instrument now reading all zeros. It worked fine last year, but did not function last Friday in a two hour cruise to my slip. The temperature indicator still functions and reads fine attached to the same instrument. I have been told you can't buy replacement transducers as Raymarine has discontinued the ST60's, which I find hard to believe!

Has anyone had this issue with ST60 speed reading zero's and what was your solution? Also, does anyone know if the new transducers Raymarine is now marketing will fit into the ST60 transducer opening/slot.

Thanks,

Greg W

I don't know that there is any difference in the transducer between the ST60&ST70's.

Airmar makes the transducers for Raymarine anyway, so you can order one from them. I just plugged my ST60 instruments into my old ST50 transducers.

Just call Raymarine because they are very easy to talk to and ask questions on how to find out what could be wrong with your unit.
I have found their teck department is very helpful in trying to find a fix before replacing it.

Re: Easy

My ST-60 speedo gives me problems now and then, This year it read all zeros the first two times I took the boat out. I pulled the instrument off the panel and cleaned the very small push on connectors (1/8") and also the contacts on the cable that connects the unit to the others (SeaTalk). This seemed to help as I now have speed data.
The female ends of those little push on connectors are hard to find but you might want to try replacing them for better electric contact. I would try this before replacing the entire transducer and cable.

Remove the Airmar transducer from the thru hull and check the paddle wheel for fouling (either weeds or barnacles). Clean it and re-insert in the thru hull. You should have a reading now when you are moving.

Steve:

I had someone help me pull the transducer this weekend. I installed it, but never pulled one out while in the water. It was no big deal and we found a little piece of mussel in the wheel. I don't know if this fixed it yet because I haven't moved the boat. Hopefully it has and now I can check my own transducer in the future.

Greg, I make it a habit to remove the Transducer and insert the plug every time I plan on leaving the boat for more than a week. I usually get a little over a Quart of water in thru the thru hull which will end up in the bilge.
