Bill, On the 20th I asked a question about making an above splice joint on the cable to the transducer on an ST50 Wind unit. Your reply was: Junction Box Submitted by Bill Boudreau of Salem, MA on 10/22 at 06:08AM regarding General_interest The unit comes with a small 5 terminal junction box. Anything that is well insulated and protected from the weather should be fine. I would recommend using the supplied junction box or its equivalent. I then asked what this junction box was? Know it hard to keep up with these chains but I would appreciate your thoughts. Also need basic answer to orginal question. Is it OK to splice this cable using std crimp on's.

Terminal Strip

The junction box is a terminal strip inside of a water tight project box. We do not stock it separately, but you should be able to get a replacement from Radio Shack or other local marine supplier. You can splice this cable as long as you do it properly with soldered connections. I would not recommend this because you will probably want to step the mast at some point.

Junction Box

Want to make sure I understand your suggestion? Get a waterproof junction box, mount it on the deck, by the mast, and have my cables run to the terminal strip inside the box using soidered connections. Would bring the wiring up through the deck into the bottom of box using Life Seal. Are the rubber compression outlets good enough for the wire going from the box to the mast?
