I recently purchased a used Autohelm ST50 Plus Radar, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to connect the 10 wires in the cable to the radome.

The manual refers to using a connection tool which, of course, I don't have.

Can anyone describe how to physically attach the wires to the connection plate??????

Thanks!!!

Re: ST50 Raadar

I have the ST50 also. Was on the boat from PO owner. Never heard of the special tool but I can only guess that it is used to unload the spring tension to attach each little wire in the radome. I just used a small screw driver as a type of poker. There are no screws to speak of to attach the wires. The bigger question is which wires go where. I would have to look at my literature on the boat to see if I have anything to help you there. Another source is the Ray Marine website. http://www.raymarine.com/Default.aspx?site=1&section=3

Thanks a million for your response.

I'm pretty sure I know which wires go where because I've downloaded the manual from Raytheon, and it seems to describe what I've got pretty well.

My connection block is depicted in the attached photo. It has a small thin slot at the back side, which I'm guessing is where the wires attach. Then there are two small square slots for each wire on the closer side, separated by labels numbering 1 to 10.

Can you tell me which slot do you poke the screwdriver in to release the spring tension? Is there any trick to it or do you just push it straight in?

Thanks for any follow-up you can provide. I'm sure there's a simple answer but I'm just not getting it so far.

As I recall, what looks like a white bar with the number is actually individual push buttons and they serve as the button to release the spring tension. You push on the number with a very small screwdriver or a pick or something that will get in there and not slip out. As you push those in, the metal jaws will open below the number and allow you to get the wire in place.
