I think my 1990 Hunter 335 had the ST4000+ Autopilot installed at the factory. When I go thru the SETUP and swing the fluxgate compass, I can't get any better than about 30° deviation. The manual says that's too much. Does anybody have this problem on their 335? Where is an optimum location for the fluxgate? Cap'n Brent

Doubtful Factory Install

Standardly, Hunter did not install autopilots. But, it may have been added by the dealer. You can call Autohelm about any difficulties and they've been very helpful to me when I've called. With regard to the fluxgate location, they told me to install it in the forward hanging locker! If you call them mention the boat has an iron keel and ask if this makes any difference. A link to raytheon support is below.

First and formost, ensure no metal objects have been inadvertently placed in the proximity of the fluxgate compass. I once placed a tool box in a storage compartment adjactent to the compartment holding the compass. Needless to say that caused great problems with my ST4000.

Mine is under the gallet sink.

I have a Hunter 335 equipped a ST4000, the compass is located underneath the galley sink. Glad to report no problems to date.
