Has anyone installed an ST4000 Mark II autopilot on their H28? I want to make sure it will fit the pedestal and wheel properly. Have you been happy with its performance? Where is the best place to mount the display? Thanks in advance.

Steve, the installation on our boat was...

fairly easy but took time. I mounted the head on the starboard coaming. Our boat had an access port in the cabin so that it was easy to secure the head. The drive motor mounted easily on the pedestal. I installed the fluxgate compass on the aft cabin stern bulkhead right below the steering well. Wires from the units passed through existing wire run holes through the starboard lazarette and cockpit lockers. I was very pleased with the unit's performance on our boat. It made short handed sailing so much easier. Terry

St4000, not for me

I have a 1993 33.5 Hunter with the ST 4000.So far I have replaced the entire unit, the flux gate compass, the control head and the wheel drive unit. The new wheel drive, called the mark 2, is grey plastic and had about 20 hrs on it and had to be replaced when the plastic cracked. And now the replacement is acting up,the locking handle,or clutch, keeps opening and I cant get the belt adjusted to prevent this.Enough said?

look at the simrad

I have a Simrad autopilot and have had no problems with it. You might consider Simrad. We call it our most important crewman, and passages would be awful without our Simrad at the helm.
