St3000 or ST4000+

Well after three months of looking for a used autopilot I ended up with two at the same time .
Anybody have opinions on which one of the above they like the best and why.
Do not tell me to buy a new one as budget and exchange rates do not allow me to do this at this time

Have had a 4000+ and liked it. Friends with the 3000 were satisfied as well. Drawback of the 3000 is that the belt is external going to the cockpit floor, hence a possibility of being in the way. Drawback of the 4000+ is high sensitivity to being over-canvassed leading to slipping of the clutch and premature wear of the internal belt. Don't know if there is a possibility of hooking a chartplotter to the 3000 but had done it with my 4000+. Both models are obsolete and Raymarine doesn't support them anymore. Don't know about installation of the 3000 but the 4000+ was easy. Good luck with your decision.

Like Claude, I have a 4000+ on my 34 and I am happy with it. I could not get it tuned in until I installed a rudder position sensor. Once I did that, it drives very well. I agree, it likes the sails to be balanced and trimmed..

I have done deliveries with the 3000 series, and like the visible simplicity. Then we used an A4000S on our 34 footer for a decade.
Do the used ones being considered both have all their parts? Remote compass module? And all the little plastic "saddles" to accommodate various numbers and diameters of wheel spokes?

Yes they have all the parts . leaning towards the 3000 but would like to know if plotter will hook up to it
