I want to pickup a Ray Marine ST1000 auto pilot. I know there use to be alot of postings for info on it here but it is no longer available doing a search. My question is what if any types of extensions or optional mounting brackets or tiller pins do I need to install this unit on my 240? I'll be doing the install what it is in the slip or moored in shallow water so I'd kinda like to have everything I need on hand to make it as painless as possible.

Randy It is not a difficult job, can be done on the water (Hate that drilling part, but it's all above the waterline) also I am sure you know this and maybe I misunderstood your posting, but there was a "Raytheon Autohelm 1000" and now a "Ray Marine autohelm ST1000" and the only reason I mention this is if you are searching for a used one you can not get replacement parts for the Autohelm 1000, you would think they are the same but they are not. I needed a small belt and the Tech Dept. insisted they were interchangeable. Not even close! Anyway for your size boat that is the perfect choice you will love it. By the way are you adapting to a wheel or tiller. Mine is a tiller on a 26, maybe I can send you a photo or two if you need

I'm looking at a Ray Marine "new". Yours being a 26' would probably not help much since the tiller and seating would probably vary. I would like to see a pic of your install though. I'm not to concerned about drilling in the water and can't be as bad as what I did last weekend while anchored in shallow water. I needed to get the halyard for the roller furling down from the top of the mast. So with my bimini still in place my son and dropped the mast. Here he was holding it up on his shoulder begging me to hurry. I could not remove the pin from the base of the mast as it was binding. Finally with only seconds to spare my wife came up on deck and removed it while I twisted it to give it some play. Then I scrambled to the back of the boat and grabbed the furling haylard only to have the whole toggle bolt fall off the top of the mast. I quickly figured out pressure is the only thing keeping it in place. The whole operation only took maybe five minutes but it was the longest five minutes of my life. I can tell you I'll never do that again

I installed a Raymarine ST1000+ on an H240 without any optional parts, although I did bend my own bracket (not hard) and thread the tiller pin. The hard part is running wiring from the fuse panel back.
