Carol and I spent Saturday and part of Sunday at the beautiful Vinoy Basin show. Impressions: 1. Boats: A. Most impressive use of interior space, and (IMO) best little cruiser overall value: West Wight Potter 19. B. Walked through the new Hunter 27, as well as the 32, 33, and 36. We are considering joining the Sailtime timeshare program, which would put us on a new 33. If that happens, our MUCH upgraded 2004 216 will become available. My take was that the 27 was NICE, but if I were to switch boats from what we have, I'd either step back to the WW Potter 19, or step up to the Hunter 33. C. Catalina Capri 22: We got a ride on this late Saturday afternoon, in PERFECT sailing conditions. Compared to our 216, the cockpit was a bit "cozy" with 5 souls on board, but the boat sailed well, I thought. D. Raider: I wasn't able to book a ride on this one in our desired time slot. Too bad, as if we sell the 216 and join Sailtime, the Raider is one small boat I am considering picking up for sailing when it's not our turn for the 33. E. Sail rig for our Hobie Mirage Sport kayaks: Saw this one in the flesh, and spoke with a guy from Tackle Shack who has sailed it. Might just have to get one! 2. What we bought: A. Ordered a couple of nice shirts with our boat name monogram. B. ( Drum roll please!) I dumped about a grand on a SEWING MACHINE!!! Bought the Sailrite zig-zag model. I'm tired of being forced to accept a lot of the bags, covers, and accessories that I really don't like, and/or feel are not a good value. The first big project slated for this INDUSTRIAL strength machine will be covers for the V-berth cushions in the 216. I'll do a couple of small mesh bag projects first to get warmed up/ All tolled, the weather couldn't have been better, there were lots of interesting (to this newbie!)things to spend your money on, and plenty of the sort of "eye candy" that we guys appreciate. Oh yeah; There were some nice boats, too! :) Bob

Been There Done That!

My wife Diane and I were there on Saturday. The weather was perfect. Crawled in, on, and all over every boat in the water. Still, the Hunters seemed to be the nicest ones there. Of course, I might be just a little biased. Great Boat Show. Will go again next year.

I Was There Saturday

Girlfriend and I were there all day Saturday and in, under, and around every boat they had. Really liked the workmanship in the Island Packets. The only boats I saw there that I liked enough to sell my 1981 37' cutter cost over $300,000.00. Time permitting next year we'll take my boat down.

Hunter 260 Lake Wawasee
great show

Was there Friday and Saturday. Perfect excuse to escape the cold Midwest for a few days. - could not get an answer to why Hunter discontinued the 240/260. The new 25 is still on the drawing board -did not like the interior of the 27. -Was quite impressed with the Catalina 310 interior. -Liked the H33 and 36. -Was very impressed with the Sailtime program. Will talk to my accountant about it. This might be the way for us to get into a new 33 !??! -The cruisers party on Saturday night was great!!
