Going to be taking a multi-day trip over this coming weekend. Can anyone recommend good transient marinas in the above mentioned three stops? there will just be three of us aboard my boat: looking for good and reasonable facilities for showers, food and to take a touch.... Thanks in advance. Adam

Great locations and it appears you'll have great weather this weekend. St Mich's: St. Michaels's Marina ("on the town" side) is convenient, nice (pool, etc.) Rates are $3/ft and reservations definitely required for the weekends. Also the dockside restraurant there is one of the best in town. (Avoid the big red tourist trap in the middle, IMHO.) Higgins Yacht Yard is a small older yard right in the middle of town with fewer facilities. St. Michael's Inn (which is not on the town side) is a short walk to town, but very nice facilities. Annapolis: Town dock space right side of Ego Alley is convenient and closest to all, but it's FCFS. Left side is now managed by a private company, not sure if they take reservations now. Annapolis City Marina is just accross the bridge in Eastport (a part of Annapolis), while the city moorings are good deal $25/night, taxi service, etc., also FCFS. There are other moorings above the bridge if you're less than 35'. And more up Spa Creek and Back Creek. 2 other main transient marinas are on Back Creek (Port Annapolis and Annapolis Landing) but they require a water taxi/dingy ride over to Annapolis. Baltimore: My favorite is the Anchorage Marina. Very large marina in Canton, the hot spot of B'more these days, convenient grocery store, rest, etc. Water taxi service to all major attractions, nice facilities, etc. There are many others and all seem to be comparable from what I've seen. All of these marinas come up under a Google search on their names. I'm sure others here will have their favorites.

While in St. Michael's
be sure to spend some time at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum. Lots of wonderful history and information. Do be careful going in and out of the Miles River, especially on the weekends as there is lots of traffic. Enjoy!

We took a trip from near Baltimore (Rock Creek on the Patapsco) to the South River, St. Michaels, and Rock Hall about 10 days ago (first time). We stayed in St. Michaels Marina: it was quite nice, and extremely convenient to walk to the town and Maritime Museum. The marina's fuel and pumpout dock were also very easy to use, and well-manned. The pool was small, but ok for a dip. Shower rooms were much above-average, with _very_cold_ AC, which was nice in the recent heat wave. I'd use this marina again if we visited St. Michaels, or perhaps anchor out in the harbour if we somehow acquired a dinghy. Make reservations now, though, as they were full-up on Fri-Sat when I called that Monday. The anchorage in Harness creek on the S. River (just south of Annapolis) was really pleasant too, if you decide to anchor out and head to Annapolis in mid-morning. Have a great trip.

We used to keep our boat across the bay from St Mikes. If you are planning on spending a few days in St Mikes look into a museum membership. It used to be 65 dollars a year and it allowed you to tie up on ther museum grounds, awesome. The slip fees are also so cheap that it doesn't take to many days to pay for the membership. We would sailover and tie up just for a weekend. After hour the groundsare very neat, IMO much better than a regular marina.

Sea Nettles at St Michaels
We just returned from a 9 day journey on the Chesapeake Bay. Went to Annapolis, St Michaels, Herring Bay, Somomons Island, Oxford, Annapolis again, then back to home port (Middle River). The sea nettles at St Michaels are everywhere! St Michaels and Annapolis have excellent ice cream shops! I would recommend anchoring out at St Michaels and using a mooring ball at Annapolis. the rates at the museum have gone up. Used to be like $15/night. Now it's a per foot charge and closer to the commercial marinas from what I hear. Still, an unbeatable location and facility. Also, with a membership you can use their dingy dock and showers with unlimited access to the grounds. For a family I'd guess the membership isn't much more than admission so it's probably worth it.

It has been a while
I guess it is not suprising. Even at commercial rates you can't beat the ambienace of bing in a working museum, especially after it closes. Some of the best times we had was a b-day party under the hooper strights lighthouse at 10PM.

Annapolis town moorings....
From my experience, the "checkout time" is 11am (or was it noon?) and the FCFS referred to above has a higher probability of success if you arrive right then. Just choose any open one and then check in ashore with the harbormasters office.

St Michaels. St. Michaels Marina is a great place to stay. Ask for slip #41. It has a full lenght dock, next to the patio bar, easy walk to C-Street Saloon. Bow in and you'll have a great view of the channel. Baltimore. Anchorage Marina. Easy walk to Fells Point, the Italian section, and Canton. Canton is great for Pub crawling. Fells Point is just great! Unfortunately, the water taxi service is not stopping there due to construction so it's a long walk to the inner-harbor tourist mecca. Annapolis. If you get there early enough, grab a slip in Ego Alley (city docks). Bow in and watch the go-fast parade with the silicon babes on the bow. Middletown Inn for Oyster Shooters and great Omlettes. And don't forget Fawcets-5th Avenue...I understand they are currently having a sale on some Tommy Bahamma stuff.

Alternates
Adam, two other alternates to consider: Rock Hall--Rock Hall Landing Marina is in the main harbor and adjacent to the Waterman's Crab House. The other marinas are equally attractive and there's a trolley bus to run you around to all the stops and town (about 1 hour per circuit). On the western shore if you need a refuge, consider Bodkin Creek, between the Magothy and Patapsco. Be mindful thought that the entrance is lousy with crab pot floats and there's a nasty shoal to the north side of the entrance channel.
