ST 80 - If you have them BEWARE!

My boat had a run in with a bridge that was a little lower that the delivery captain thought. He hit it with the top of my wind instrument and sent it into the ICW somewhere near morehead city. Just caught the last few inches of it and tore it off. He claims that they are made to be "breakaway". The real issue is that the boat is less than a year old and the ST 80 system was the latestest and greatest when the boat was built. (426 DS) I called Raymarine to get this part - and was informed they didn't stock it anymore and I would have to replace the whole wind instrument including the wiring in the mast and the instrument head. So, just a heads up. Rayamrine isn't supporting these instruments AT ALL. If you have an ST 80 system take good care of it as I doubt you will be able to get parts!!!!!! The next problem is what to do to fix my situation. The boat has the ST 80 with all the bells and whistles integrated with the RADAR and chart plotter, auto pilot, masterviews (2) keypad, depth, speed - not clear how to fix the wind instrument except to down grade to a ST 60, then wire it back into the ST 80 system. Seems like a down grade, but the ST 290 is totaly different system.

For *only* £627 you can buy one...

Love challenges. Entered "Autohelm ST80 wind" in Google and got some hits. One of them has the wind transducer for *only* £626.98 plus shipping and probably duty. Don't know if the web page is a current one but one could write them an e-mail. Sometimes the pages that Google comes up with are are old. That's a good heads up for everybody, though. Find it hard to believe that Autohelm wouldn't support something that recent and especially considering it is a part of an expensive system. http://marinestore.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=mrst&Category_Code=es8
