that has their windex mounted beside the mast. when it is in the lee it spins like the button on a back-house door. Where abouts are you in Sandy Hook? I grew up in Newtown and watched them build the new dam in 1952-'53 on the Housatonic River.
The wind vane is made out of plastic and is prone to breakage if birds use it as a perch. If the tail is broken or missing it will spin. The repair kit which includes a wind vane and the anemometer cups is not expensive but it is hard to find. Go up the mast and disconnect the transducer arm and then you can replace the parts on deck before taking it back up to install. If you have your manual follow the steps to properly calibrate after installation. Good luck.
Benny is right. I have the same problem. Upon checking the wind vane, I noted that the tail feather was missing. I got the repair kit from Raymarine. Ordered it online. Now I just have to go up the mast.
I think he may be referring to the electronic display of wind direction and not his Windex. I have the same problem with my ST40 and think it just needs to be recalibrated (put the instrument in calibration mode while underway, perform at least 2 360 degree turns per owners manual).
Plan on trying the recalibration this weekend, hopefully it's that simple. Ross, I'm off of 84 near Walnut Tree Hill Road. Interesting, moved up here from Bel Air, MD, actually purchased my boat (Hunter 320) at Tidewater.Dave
up there since '58. I don't remember Walnut Tree Hill Road. Fifty years ago there weren't very many roads in Sandy Hook. No Interstate, mostly just Church Hill rd. and the rode to Southbury to the left and the road past the Curtic Box Company to the right at the bottom of the hill.
