I decided that I should attempt to install a Raytheon ST-60 wind instrument on my Hunter 310 this spring. I even ordered the bosuns chair,(splat) and would like to hear from anyone who has done this before about what to expect in the process of running the cable up the mast and over the cabin ceiling to the instrument location over the companionway. There is a small line coming through the caulking under the mast and protruding into the cabin which I assume is a leader line for pulling something up the mast. Is it easy to pull a cable through the cabin roof or is there a trick to it? Any help will be appreciated. My mast is a furling mast if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Did this on a 1990 Hunter 30

I was fortunate and had the mast down, I used an electrisions tape 50', borrowed. The hard part was runing a wire from the base of the compression post to the port side which is probably less than 5' and this was the most difficlut. Out of frustration I took a spool of welding wire and stated craming through the head liner until finaly a piece cam through the side of the cabin and head liner. I then stuffed the cable along the headliner to the bulkhead that separated the cabin from the cockpit. The new hole was drilled for the instrument and it was easy to fish the cable to that point. I think it took two weeks to get the chase wire from the compression post to the side of the cabin.

Love RayMarine instruments but dealer installed

Good luck. Looked at the requirements and decided to pay the dealer to install. They did a great job!

Did Exactly this .....................

............ to our 1999 H310 last winter. I guess I spent about 8 hours at the top of the mast over several trips. Not a good idea to spend too long up there as I wound up with hypothermia. The mast is really cold and sucks a lot of heat out of your thighs. Damn Canadian winters. It really was quite simple, its just not knowing what you will find when you get up there. The biggest part of it was mounting an aluminum plate ........ 3" by 6" on the mast cap using the existing 3/8" nut which you will find up there. I put 5200 under the plate to ensure it would not rotate. The transducer is then mounted on this plate. The other problem was thinking I could use the existing fish lines to pull the cable down the mast. Just didn't work and I don't know where they went. I had to run a new fish line down the mast which was a little tricky to get it out the bottom of the mast. Used a long piece of heavy solder wire so that it could be bent as it was pulled out of the bottom of the mast. If you e-mail me, I can return a close up .jpg of the mast cap which I received from Selden Mast. It was the biggest help I had. Regards, s/v Island Hunter

ST-60 Wind Instrument

Ralph, Thank you very much for the information. My mast is Zspars furling(not Selden) but I would be interested in the picture. I would also like to hear from you about your experience with pulling the cable from the foot of the mast to the display location. Did you have to remove any cabin parts or was in easy to snake? I already have a manual wind indicator (no transducer) at the top of the mast so I'm hoping that all I'll have to do is remove the old wind vane and replace it with the new one and drop the cable down the inside of the mast. Am I on the wrong track? Thanks. Lee
