St-60 Wind Calibration

We have had our ST-60 on our Katrina Replacement boat for about two years. There were many other issues on this boat which we have finally resolved. We have noticed on occasion that the wind speed would read a negative number. For about the last six months we had problems with the speed only having dashs and the needle not moving when we would first power the instruments up. We noted that if we would turn them off and on, then they would come on. When we were having radar installed by Raymarine, the technician pulled on the gray wire and the pin on the back of the unit came off, so we sent it back to New Hampshire. When we got it back, it said to recalibrate. I called and asked about the instruction in the operators manuel. What I understand now is that you need to have the unit powered up and then start turning the boat and then there is some sort of alarm and then you enter the calibration mode by pressing the keys according to the instructions, while the boat continues to turn in a circle. From what I understand, this alows the boat to calibrate the head unit with the instrument in the cockpit and then you can fine tune it after that. Has anyone actually done this? We plan to try this in order to get rid of the negative numbers in the wind speed indicator. Let me say that the negative numbers are not always there and we have in the past been able to get rid of them by turning the unit off and then on again.

Have the manual

I have the manual and I did have to calibrate my unit. But only to correct the needle for wind direction. But there are a lot of calibration menus there that I did not look at. As I recall, you turn on the power, press and hold the button in the lower left and hold it down until the unit goes into calibratiuon mode and the LCD reads "CAL". From there, you can go through several menus. RayMArine keeps all the manuals on line. I've attached the link for the ST-60.
