SSB

I've recently purchased a boat with SSB and don't have a clue. Anyone know of a place that has classes? I travel a lot and would gladly stay in some area a few extra days to learn how to use this thing. I've read a couple of short books, but I'd like a little hands on guidence with the radio, the modem, etc. Thanks.

Gordon West has an interactive DVD which covers the whole spectrum of SSB (from what I understand) I ordered it from Amazon and it should be at home waiting for me tonight...There is also a book SSB for Idi-yachts that is pretty good as well.BrianCREW REST

Ham or Marine

Dale, You didn't say if this was a marine ssb or Ham radio ssb. If it is Ham radio the previous responds to you were good. It's important to be licensed with either one. Regards Richard wa7mtf s/v La Vida Feliz

Thanks for you post Richard - I didn't realize there was more than one kind of SSB! I've often seen these advertised and I've thought about getting one and going for a license but haven't got 'round to it.Now there is one more thing to look out for.

HEy John, Tell me what the make and model is of the radio and I can tell you which license is needed. Some of the Ham Radios have been "opened up" to work out of the Ham Band, Although this is not legal many do it anyway. For licensing info for marine radio go to FCC.gov Regards, Richard
