I have just bought an I-Com 802 SSB with a Pactor modem. I don't have an operator's license for the moment and I am leaving from Annapolis for the Caribbean in a few days. Can I get access to Sailmail if I don't have an operator's license and what do I have to do to get access ? Sailmail's application is asking for a call sign. Can I get one without an operator's license. I am a Canadian citizen and the boat is registered in Canada.
Thanks for responding to my query.

You don't need an amateur radio license but you do likely need a marine license issued by the Canadian government to be legal. You also need to join Sailmail and the process is thoroughly explained on the Sailmail website - search for their primer.
