i plan to install a ssb radio on my 466. since there is no backstay i cannot use a backstay antenna. what have other owners done? what about a ground plate? do i have to use a 23 ft. antenna? will a shorter antenna using a antenna tuner create a compromise? where have others mounted their ssb antennas?

We use an Outbacker with good results

The only downside is that you have to switch a jumper on the antenna if you switch bands.

SSB antenna

Our's was installed using the port side shrowd all the way up to the required 23 feet. The ground plate was placed while the boat was out of water during commissioning. Now, all I need is the radio and tuner. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Ricky - Outbacker?

Ricky - Wondering which Outbacker you use, and how did you mount it? What about a ground/counterpoise? I'd like to put an antenna on my 290 for Ham CW/SSB on the HF bands. I was considering an Outbacker mounted to the stern rail. Thanks, Gregg
