Just a little FYI. Just got my pactor modem in the last couple of weeks and was looking aound for a provider.. I signed up with one provdider but was having all kinds of problems and connecting and staying connected. I thought it might be my equipment( since I did my own install , but I was getting good radio checks on all freqs... I called CrusieEmail and talk to the owner Dr. John Gregory and he explained his service etc and set me up with his software... He talked me through the install process over the phone and then had me start dialing in freqs...I connected short and far and I was extremely pleased with the transfer rate and all other aspects of the service....This is not a paid advertisement, but a testimonial from a now satisfied customer...If you are looking at SSb Email, give CruiseEmail a look.Brian Craigs/v Crew Rest

Isn't there a free service

I have a friend who is in this business generally. He uses a service called Winlink with his SSB and pactor modem, that I have personnaly used when he was on a trip and I have used when I was on a trip with him. Have you ever tried it? I think it is free.Mike D

I did a lot of work with Dr. John Gregory, back in the 90's, when he was just getting Cruise Email [ http://www.cruiseemail.com/ ] up & running. I know him to be a very knowledgeable (and genial) person. Though I’ve no experience /w Cruise Email, I can recommend the man highly.FWIW,Gord

Not a ham

I am not a Ham so I can't use Winlink... I also have some email that contains what might be considered "business" which is not allowed on Winlink either...If I were a ham I am sure I would use both though to keep the usage down on the commercial providers...Brian

Winlink is free

We have used Winlink in Mexico for the past 5 years. It is free and you don't need a provider as there are many, many gateways on many frequencies established by hams worldwide. Once you have the equipment you simply dial a freq and connect and send/receive your e-mail. You do need a ham general class license or better as this is done in the ham bands. No business mailing. The same thing is available for $200 a year through Sailmail and you can use it for business. The ham version allows much longer connect time, or just go to another gateway. Both can be found on Google under Winlink or Sailmail. Jack WA6WTH
