Squeaky cabin top -do I have to live with this?

I have a 1991 Hunter 35.5 and am baffled by the squeaky noises I hear whenever in any seas over 6" (i.e. crossing a boat wake). It is really annoying and casts concerns about the seaworthiness, whether founded or just psychological. It's around the point where the mast is stepped and is very loud when below. I can't trace it to anything being transmitted through the mast (i.e. boom connection point). Is this just something I have to live with? Any validations and/or suggestions are appreciated. I absolutely love this boat, I'd just like to feel like it's a solid craft and the noise is hard to get past.

No, not when

the mast comes down! Sound like the mast step has water damage and may need to be repaired. Big bucks, but its a boat ain't it!

Or it may be as simple as...

...the forward salon bulkhead is rubbing in its overhead slot as the hull flexes. Not a hard fix - use shims. Go below and check it out the next time you are underway.

Goose Neck Suspect

Perform a close inspection of the goose neck fitting on the mast and the boom connection. Mine squeaks, loudly, if I don't keep it lubricated. Sail on RD
