As I mentioned some time ago, I got a new slip at the Navy Sailing Center, Point Loma. It is in the North San Diego Bay at the Navy Antisubmarine and Mine Warfare Center. Just 40 minutes form the mouth of San Diego Bay. Great location.
On Monday, 9/1, I moved my boat from South Bay. Took 2:21 under sail to reach NSC. A great sail it was. However, it was marred by the fact that there was a house boat in my slip. The Dock Master said they told the boat to leave and by the time I arrive the slip should be empty. Well it wasn't. I ended up taking some one's slip while waiting for mine.
On Thursday, 9/4, I called the Dock Master again and they told me he was still there. But this time they called the Military Police. They said they would call me when the slip became vacant. I got no call.
Yesterday I took the chance and drove down to the boat. I was wonderfully surprised that the slip was empty. I finally moved my boat and now I feel like I am at home.
Oh well... not sure why the guy was being so difficult to deal with. I understand he was a DOD Contractor doing work on the base. He was also living on the boat. First, DOD Contractors have not priority for slip space on a military reservation. Only Active Duty, Retirees, and DOD employees, in that order. Second, live aboards are not allowed in the marina. They just don't have the facilities to support them.
I hope you guys never run into squatters in marinas.
