Yesterday must have been Christmas. My new wheel pilot from Raymarine finally arrived. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until Spring to see if it works. It the interim, I can plan the wiring and location of the computer and compass.

Thanks for sharing--I've been waiting since June for mine. Maybe it will be a Christmas present.

The X5

So they finally got those things released. I waited for nearly three months on one, then in June decided it just wasn't going to happen soon enough for my needs, and sprung for the S2. I am happy with the performance of the S2, so lets not hear a lot about how good the X5 is. It will just make me wish I had waited. :) Although it would have been nice to not have to install the damn rudder sensor.

Wheel pilot

hey, I guess they sent out a boat load of them. I recieved my order from Defender today and as you say, the planning begins. This is going to be so nice after hand steering for the last 3 years.

Got a call last night from West Marine. Going to pick it up right now. I'm still in the water so I plan to install it in the next few weeks. Finally!!

No Rudder Sensor

I envy you guys who are going to do this install and don't have to fool around with a rudder sensor. I think the rest of it is the same as the S2, and it's pretty straightforward. Enough cabling to reach almost anywhere, and the instructions are fairly straight forward. Be careful with the compass. The directions show it to be preferable to mount it as close to the center line as possible, and as low as possible. This lead me to think bilge, but a call to their tech support revealed that it had to be kept mounted in a dry place. They told me it is supposedly splash proof, but not water proof. Good luck on your install, and good sailing.
