Bad Back

Hey Brian. Just keep at it. I fell 1 story head first 5 years ago. broke 16 bones including my back in 3 places. Inherited a Oday wigeon about 3 months ago that had been sitting in the tall grass since 1997. Got the boat fixed and ready to go and just now today got the wooden crossmember fiberglassed and installed on the trailer to get it licensed. Sure the back hurts but I like the water and I find ways to do what I want. Oh by the way 5 years ago I couldnt walk. Have a good sail today and a better one tomorrow. James.

Ready to go!

The main hurdle that I had to overcome to be sailing by spring was the fact that I did not own a sailboat. I am happy to report that I am over that hurdle and am the proud owner of a new(well, she's new to me) 1974 Hunter 25. I hope, weather permitting, to be out on the water this weekend! Heck, I might even spend the whole weekend on her. I can always crank up the heater if it gets cold overnight. She needs lots of TLC, like sanding the deck down to the gelcoat and repainting, applying new non-skid, sanding and varnishing brightwork etc, etc.....Oh, what the heck, that stuff can wait till next winter. Till next time Sail Fast, Live Slow.

Lots of ideas (dreams!)

Have we gotten away from the thread of this article? Well - anyway - I'm one of those kind of people who try not to PLAN anything other than needed maintenance, since that costs quite enough, thank you! But I do take advantage of opportunities that come my way. I received a great AM/FM/Cassete/CD unit for Christmas and now plan to mount a panel at my nav station for that and the new VHF radio I need to get. I hated the way those two radios hung from brackets instead of being built-in like they should be. Wish me luck!

Hey Pat I am confused

Looking at your picture I am confused, that sure does not look like a Hunter 25. Cliff

variety

Hi Cliff, I asked around to make sure, but the Hunter 25 came in more that one design. I talked to a guy that has an '81 H25 and it looks different. It has a boxier cabin and 4 ports. Look at the hunter 25's for sale and you can se the differences. Pat

Hunter 25's

I had the 1978 Hunter 25 as my first boat, which I believe shared the hull shape but not the cabintop of the '74 version. If I remember correctly, the 74 hull and cabintop were designed by Bob Seidelman.

New Boat, lots of projects

just brought home my new (to me) boat, 1985 nash 26' most cabin room of any boat I've seen. Now the projects begin. The saildrive is out of her, so I just bought an other motor, some maintenance around keel bolts and chain plates as well as steering cable. Wants and desires for this year are Chart Plotter, Dodger and Bimini. before i get ahead of myself I need to rename it and need a suitable cerimony to do that. I can hardly wait to get her out on Georgian Bay and do some real cruising with her. 2 more month and we'll have her in the water. Fair winds guys and gals

Great Day

It's 70 today but the wind is gusting to 45 mph. Plan to spend a little time with Cheshire, getting her ready. I've owned her two years but she spent all of last year on the hard as I was in the Middle East on a Navy Reserve recall. Acquired some goodies (chartplotter, instruments, radio, wheel pilot) and need to install them as well as paint the bottom and clean/wax the topsides. Any suggestions on products to use for restoring the fiberglass (it's in good condition, just dull)?

on the ball

I have done more work this winter than ever before. All new line, teak is already refinished and oiled up. I have also gotten to a few other things that have been bugging me for a while. Not every thing is done, but for this time of year I am way ahead of the game.

spring prep

So far spring rework and upgrades on in the works. My main sail just got back from the sail shop and just ordered a new roller furler. Refinished the wood work with cetol and going to pull and IRAN (inspect and repair as nessary)the mast. I was going to paint the topsides while the rest was in works and have found some paint that is not suppose to leave brush marks. Has anyone else painted the topsides with good results, just looking for input here as i do want to have a good looking finish. Thanks, Scott

Penetrol

you can use penetrol to smooth out your topside paint. you can get it at any home supply store (HD,Lowes etc) just follow the directions on the can. It's also a great restorer of fiberglass. regards Ken

I'm Working On It!

My goal was to repair a through hull - being done this week. Replace all the dock lines - I've picked them out but not purchased, also adding new fenders - done. Dodger needed stitching - done. Still looking for end caps on the traveller - can't find them. Need to paint the bottom. Just waiting for a bit of warmer weather. So, guess I'm not doing too badly. Looking forward to a great season - my first full season since I purchased the Hunter '31 last September.

Old Furler

What are you going to do with your old furler? I have a Siren 17'2" that I need a dirt cheap furler for; if it is broke maybe I could fix it? Bill
