Boat projects
I have actually got some of the projects done and some are still in progress.Pulled all the deck fittings and resealed. Refinished all the work wood work, made a grate out of teak for on of the compartments to enclose it off. I didn't really get started until about 3 weeks ago. But do you ever get them all done? My list of things to do has gotten shorter (by thinking I can do some after its lauched) and some things moved to next year as launch day gets closer. Can't hardly wait!!! I'm exhausted
The secret is to build a master list over time that's sequential, starting in November while still in the water, and progressing to the hards in December and January. After spending ten weekends and five weekdays completing my list of 200-plus items, I relaunched last Friday and am good to go.

Right now, the only way to navigate the harbor is in a 4-wheel drive vehicle! The air temperature only occasionally makes it above freezing...BUT, a couple of times each week, another "box-o-boat-bits" arrives and gets stored in the garage, fueling another evening of list making and planning...

Three weeks?!?
Maybe where you live and by the calendar it's three weeks. In upstate New York we're still dealing with mini-glaciers and frozen lakes in April. Lucky to be launched by mid-May. My backyard is still a foot deep in snow. The driveway is solid ice. Why do you think I have time to spend with this computer?

It's still winter up here but...
today promises to be beautiful. Yesterday some neighbors walking by said "Thinking summer?" as I was up on the boat knocking of snow, and trying to figure out how to mount the new bow roller. Last week I created the "To Do List" along with estimated costs The next two months will see most of my activity including a "new" outboard set up with electic start and single lever control,new sink and counter and stove, new battery box, traveler controls, new windex, some wiring upgrades. I have a whole boatload(HaHa) of projects to complete including replacing the head holding tank, inspecting the exhaust riser, building a custom mast riser, running new mast wiring, stepping the mast with new standing rigging, connecting my new digital voltmeter and fume alarm, painting the bottom, waxing the topsides and deck and a whole other list of minor projects. All this needs to be done by the first week in May. I spent Staurday ripping apart the head for cleaning and refitting. What a great day though. Tim R

I spent $25+K installing a new kitchen, floors, computer room, etc. over the last two months working every night after work and 8-9 hours on the weekends to complete the job while snow is covering the golf course and the lake..... I get one package of Iroko wood in last week to begin working on the trim on the boat and she says that tink is a Money Pit? Oh Boy. At least I now have time for my toy. jeff

This has been the year of the boat...and my wallet shows it. 1).repower the perkins 4-108 with Volvo D2-55 2).Re wire intier boat! 3).Reconnect '"properly" our battery charger/ inverter 4). Replace and install All new battery banks 5). Replumb and install new head holding tanks with guage (thanks Peggy). 6). New HW heater 7). Went to Focetts Presidents day sail and picked up a new force 10 bQ for the rail! Lots still to do!...but alas as our wallet feels the pinch we will wait before any new purchases....now we will do some grunt work......I want to rebed all deck hardware and as it warms up we have some painting and some finish work to do down below...... Ahhh the joy of boat ownership! I LOVE IT!

Finished the first interior job this weekend. New stereo speakers installed. Sounds great. Ice still on the lake so haul out will be in April for a new bottom. The list is long and hope to be back in by mid may.

Barn busted
I have a different dilemma. I worked on my Mac26X during the mild Texas winter so she's ready to go, but my wife has me finishing out the inside of a 9-stall horse barn (all carpentry, water, wiring, etc.). I'm busting my hump to get it done by the return if the really good weather so I can sail without getting "that" look from her.

paying rent
I feel that the $ I spend on my boat is like paying a rental fee for it's use over the season. We all know that we'll never get back all the money we spend each year in creature comforts, and upkeep on our boats if and when we decide to sell it. So becaue I spent so little on purchasing my O22' I don't feel bad spending money and putting in hard work each year to make it a comfortable as possible. This year I have purchased a new 150% genoa and new CDI roller furling unit which I will be installing. I might also get a new mainsail if I can find one on my price range (Under $350). I added new standing rigging, new chainplates, new cockpit cushions. New depth gauge and transducer which I wired to my new (last year) electrical panel and battery. This year I also put in a battery meter so I don't drain my battery and a 10w solar panel to keep my battery at full strength. I will be fixing a slightly cracked back edge of my keel, and refairing the hull. I will be painting my deck with a 1 part epoxy and repairing some delamination on the foredeck. I bought some new varnish (Z-spar) which I will be using on the toerails and teak handrails on deck. I will be painting the trim of the rubrails (black) and painting the rubrails (which are rubber) white so they look "kinda" new. I will also be installing a new chartplotter that I got real cheep and a few other odds and ends. Phew...... let the spring begin...... Mike C. O'22 "Maestro"

II, Wind Angel, and applied three coats of "Ultimate Sole" high-friction, high-gloss urethane (Boy, did that stuff stink up my basement! But, my, does it look nice!) and recently re-intsalled the sole in the cabin. I have just completed fabricating a shelf and support brackets and installed the same to create a platform for an ESB (Emergency Starting Battery). I then paralleled the two 4D batteries and connected a Xantrex Echo-Charger to isolate and charge the ESB and finally installed a Xantrex Link 10 Monitor to monitor my "doubled-up" house bank and installed 2 separate DS-100 DeSulfators to each of the 4D's to prevent sulfation of the battery plates. AND FOR MY NEXT ACT . . . . I have ordered a new innerspring mattress for the aft berth and plan to order a "tufted-topper" mattress cover (All at the orders of "She Who Must Be Obeyed at All Times"); I will be installing a full set of 12 "water miser" battery vent caps I will be installing a "shore water" system connection to provide unlimited presurized water from the dock (Again, at the behest of "She Who Must Be Obeyed at All Times"); Lastly (at least at this point), I'll be adding a galvanic isolator to the new shore power connection that was added to my boat last year. AND THAT'S *BEFORE* I START CLEANING THE DECK AND TOPSIDES AND PAINTING THE BOTTOM (I think I'll do that next month) Isn't boat ownership wonderful! A continuous "work-in-progress"!
