spring cleanup

My boat really got dirty this winter, outdoor storage with a custom cover that must have flapped against the boat. Boat was covered with the usual coal dust from calumet harbor area and brown stains from the cover. I used a boat soap to wash the deck and roll off to get the stains off the deck. It still needs more cleaning and I am hoping for some suggestions for a better product to get the stained and more heavily soiled areas of the deck(nonskid) clean. I used a deck brush and some small hand brushes. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

A very effective but not overly aggressive cleaner is Collinite 920 Fiberglass Boat Cleaner. Just follow the directions. It will remove everything except the gelcoat.

I used a portable Powerwasher on a fan spray setting maybe 3" away from the deck last weekend and was impressed how easily almost everything came off the non skid and the hull itself. Stay away from any vinyl graphic stripes, particularly if they are sun damaged or aged. It will also clean out the teak grab rails but be carefull you don't hold too long and raise too much grain.

I used Oxyclean in a spray bottle for the first time 2 weeks ago. That stuff really works. I used a soft scrub pad with a handle, much easier on the fingers.

If you have finished teak, be careful with the OxyClean. I have found that the Oxyclean seems to make Cetol splotchy looking.

which yard are you in? its a problem on the calumet. i (my wife) have used bar keepers friend on the deck, done on hands and knees it takes a few hours but it will come off. i also noticed that that coal dust finds it way out throughout the summer when it rains.

oh, i also heard roll off works on that nasty dust as well
