I'm sitting here in Bayfield Wisconsin in the Pike's Bay Marina Clubhouse. Emmanuel is still on the hard, there is still some snow on the ground and the lake is still iced over BUT last night was our first night of 2007 that we spent on our boat! We had to drive up yesterday because we wanted to see the work we had done on the boat (we had the aft cabin converted from a single cabin to two double cabins) that was just completed. It came out great and we are really happy. Mostly I am so happy to be back here knowing launch time is not that far away!!! It was a little cold last night even with the heater but it was still great.

Erie is thawed... :)

I flew over Lake Erie a few weeks ago on my way to Europe and it was still totally icy, white from ohio to Canada, and the North Atlantic around Labrador and Greenland did not look to inviting either... It was great, you had a full view from Sandusky all the way to the Canadian side. But it looked mighty cold! The channel was open to St.Clair with huge ice chunks floating in it... but I took a look at the sandusky live cam a few days back, and voila all the ice is gone!!! ( http://webcam.sanduskyregister.com/regcam_high.html ) I can't wait to get the boat into the water, either. But, the water will still be might cold!!! Better make sure you don't have to swim. When does it get warm enough in WI to go swimming???

Princess, WOW

Very nice Pike's Bay Marina. Just wondering what a classy place like that charges for slip's. And when does your season start and end. I am heading south for the longer boating season in Florida and will be staying at Burnt Store Marina, but I will bet your scenery is to die for. Princess why would you need a heater what's up with Grumpy. Nick

Pike's Bay is a great place

This is our 4th season here. PBM is one of the most expensive marinas in the Apostle Islands but you get so much value for your money. The slips are big, the docks and piers are wide and comfortable. Huge clubhouse with full kitchen, laundry, deck, wide screen tv and wrap around deck. Gordy, our Marina Manager (the best in the world) throws parties on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. The marina grills burgers and brats and buys the beer, wine and lemonade. The service people (Diane and Mark) are exceptional. The service is top notch, always. So, maybe not so pricey after all. For our 40 footer our yearly nut is about $4,300.00. Includes launch (anytime after May 1st usually), slip with water, power, cable and wireless, haul out and winter storage. Our season usually ends around mid-October. The water in the summertime, in protected bays, in 10 feet or less gets to about 65 degrees. Always good for a refreshing dip!
