I there any truth to the contention that Hunter recomends that the spreaders are replaced every seven years and are succeptable to splitting. I just had my running rigging replaced and they said it was time for that procedure. I am nervous now because I was told if it weren't done I could be demasted.

Huh??

I thought I'd heard just about everything,....but this is a new one. What a pile of crap!! Our spreaders are made of anodized aluminum. If they are damaged in some way then sure replace them, but else??...leave them alone. The mast is made of the same stuff, are you supposed to replace it also?? Sounds to me like someone is trying to make some money off you.

that really is a new one.

Robert: Where did you get this information? I have been on the website for many years and have never heard of such a thing. Call Hunter Marine and get their opinion if you have any doubt.

Good idea, call Hunter.

Yeah, where did you get that info? Did you get it from your local Hunter dealer? If you did, and when you call Hunter Marine and they said you don't need to replace it, then Hunter should know about what their local dealers are telling the owners, and put a stop to it. If Hunter agrees with replacing the spreaders, then they should get it on their website, and explain the whys to all of us, and be able to justify their claims and reasonings.

Let me take a wild guess.....

that the same person who told you this was the same one who had them for sale???? I inspected spreaders on my 84 model while it was laying on saw horses and they looked just as they did when new.

Compare prices too.

Robert: You may want to compare prices too. They sell parts for this rigs at Rig-rite in Rhode Island. I am really suprised that they did not try to sell you new standing rigging too. PS: Why didn't you replace your own running rigging? This is really not something that you need a pro for.
