Launched two weeks ago,Noticed Mainsail rubbing on spreader end on a run . Anyone have a problem with wear of sail, thought of beefing up sail at point of contact.boat sailed great in 15 knot breeze on lake Michigan.
It is common for boats with swept back spreaders to have reinforcement patches on their mainsail to prevent this problem.
Many have suggest tacking down wind.
I solved this problem by purchasing a Hunter without spreaders. It works great. We have something similar to a 500sq ft down wind blooper (it's called the mainsail) <g>
Check Sailright, www.sailright.com. They have everything you need to sew on the patches. If you sew the patches on, instead of using stick on like sail repair tape, you can take them off and replace them when they wear out. It's easy to do as long as you have a good sewing machine.
