I'm a new Mariner owner and not used to being a trailer sailor. That being said I could use some advice. I have replaced the spreaders twice. They keep braking where joined at the mast. They were originally aluminum and thus were replaced with aluminum. The first one that broke was due to one side hitting the deck on raising the mast. But yesterday one broke for no apparent reason. I plan on replacing with stainless steel. A buddy of mine that races lightin's says that they drill a hole through the mast for their spreaders. This would make the spreaders totally straight. The boat is a 1966 and the spreaders that were on it when purchased were more angled. I need some advice on this subject.
