Spreader movement

I am the new owner of a hunter 29.5 1996. This is my first boat with the spept back spreaders and yesterday was the first day in brisk winds. 20+ kts. I noticed that when closehauled and heeled about 15 degress if the main or the headsail began to flutter as I got too close to the wind, the spreaders would vibrate fore and aft at about the same rate as the flutter. Is this normal? I know I was overcanvased and later reefed but it was rather disconcerting to see the spreaders moving about.

It sounds like your riggin may need tuning. We have an h320 with

double spreaders and have never experienced spreader vibration in winds of 30+ knots.

I have to agree that my double spreaders don't vibrate or move on my 2007 36hunter,may just need adjustment or maybe you should have someone who knowsmore about rig tuning.Nick

Mine don't move

On our 29.5 we have had the rails in the water and never noticed any movement.I would agree with a tuning issue.Joe
