I want to put a set of spreader lights on my OD25 but the speaders don't look large enough to start drilling holes in them.I think it would weaken them quite a bit,any ideas. Also the wiring,I don't think I should be running any wires through the spreaders maybe the mast.I'm not crazy about putting any holes in the mast.Has any body attempted this if so I could use some ideas,or maybe just forget the idea. Thanks Jack Trip-J's Narragansett Bay

Instead of spreader lights you could try a steaming/deck light combo. Mounts on the from of the mast with one light forward for your required steaming light and a light pointing down towards the deck.

Jack, I think you have thought out the problems associated with mounting a set of lights on the spreader and I have also rejected the idea for your very reasons. Spreader lights also draw a lot of power if you plan on leaving them on long. Changing bulbs midseason would be a PITA, and unless the stick comes down often in a season, it will wait until season end. For illumination of the deck, Scott's mast head/foredeck light is a good alternative, but still this access problem. Instead I bought a Davis mega light that I intend to use as an anchor light and a deck light. Not as bright as a spreader light but only draws a fraction of the current a spreader would draw, and considerably cheaper. It also will switch on at dusk automatically and I plan on hauling it up to the spreader with a small rope. It simply plugs into a cigerette lighter in the cabin and I am adding aother 10' extension to its power cord. Don

I bought a Davis light and used it last season. If I needed light it was there. I even use it while working on things in the boat. This is because I do not have shore power and no alternator. It provided enough light for this 49 year old man last season...... I have no idea if it is enough if you are older! If you want, I will report on a year by year basis. r.w.landau
