I would like to install a spreader halyard on my 1992 H28. I just finished searching the archives and the net using Google and couldn't find the advice I was looking for. Is there anyone that has installed a spreader halyard that has a picture of the attachment at the spreader and the tie off point on deck? I think I need two attachment points on the spreader so the radar reflector doesn't chafe the line? I don't want to drill holes and find out that the way I installed the halyard doesn't work. I have attached a picture of my boat for reference. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd just hang a block from a zip tie

and for the lower anchor, use a clamp on cleat on the shroud with an eye on the end/top. I have this cleat on my boat. On the spreader there is a small pad eye or eye strap srewed in without a block. the halyard is a loop of about 1/8th inch, that is a a little long but runs thru the eye in the lower cleat. The slack allows the "flag" halyard to be tied off on the cleat. Its a pain the rump to be fiddling around with drill bits, taps and little screws when hanging up there, so just use a zip tie.

Flag Halyard

I used a small swivel block tied onto the underside of the lower spreader with 1/8" braided dacron line wrapped twice around the spreader. No drilling, no corosion of fasteners and easily removable. I ran a continuous loop thru the block with the flag clips tied into the line and 'cleated' it off by wrapping a double clove hitch around one of the standing rigging lowers.

wire tie

do what Scott says. However, I have found that plastic wire ties from Home Depot/Lowes work well. Just run them through the eye and the swivel on the block, cut the tail and you are done.
