spreader fittings

I am in the process of replacing my mast on my O 22.I have never done this before and am looking for some know how. I have most of the old parts ( I bought the boat with a broken mast and needed to purchase a new one) however, I'm concerned about putting the spreaders on. What kind of fitting do I need to install ( I heard I needed a compression fitting)Any help would be appreciated.Mike C

Mike - It would be wise to intall a compression tube inside the mast at the spreader fitting. The load is substantial. I tapped a piece of aluminum tubbing cut to fit snuggly inside the mast to the end of a long piece of thin PVC pipe. Then I put srews through the wall of the mast to hold it in place. Then installed the spreader fittings and went sailing.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Rigrite has the original spreader kit

Rigrite (http://www.rigrite.com/) sells a duplicate spreader hardware assembly for about $68. It includes the original ss rod with threaded ends, the two aluminum inserts for the spreaders, two ss cotters, and the compression tube. Their number is on the site.They used to have a drawing on the site, and it might still be there, but I couldn't find it. You could give them a call.Rigrite also has the proper spreader stock, and duplicate tabernacle castings... both the deck and spar parts of it.
