Does anyone know where I can find the pictured spreader boots? They are from an Ericson 35 with Kenyon S3 spreaders. I would consider an alternative but already have looked at the ones on this site and the Plastimo brand boots. Tim R.

That looks like a tip that holds the shroud captive when the tip is installed into the spreader. Rig Rite shows the tips that have the shrouds held captive with wire. You raise a good question, though. I have not seen boots that are made for aerodynamic spreaders like the S3 (I also have that model). They seem to all be for round spreaders.

Someone else on a different board mentioned Charleston Rigging but that is an industrial marine rigger. They had no idea what a spreader boot was. That photo is of the boot itself. It does capture the spar but not mechanically. It is only shaped that way to cover the wire and protect the headsail. Tim R.

I'm doing the same this year and have the same problem with the tips. I could only find them at RigRite in RI. And they are not cheap. I was able to clean mine up really nice with a good wax. The if you use them on the opposite side of the spreader, they will still look nice.

Megan at Rigrite said there is no spreader boot that fits a Kenyon SP3. I even sent her the picture. Unfortunately that picture is from another Ericson owner with the same boat. I do not have any of the originals. There was just a bad tape job from the DPO when I bought my boat. He always flew a 100% and the first time I put a 150% up it ripped the sail because there was monel sticking out through the tape. Luckily it was an old race sail that had been cut down to fit on a furler. Tim R.

Ditto for Charleston Rigging...that was a dead end for my spreader boot search. I was verry fortunate and found replacement spreader boots at Crowley Marine in Chicago. Thankfully they still had the "old" style of the Tempo spreader boots. They might be able to help you out. Have you tried Riggingonly.com?
