I have really grown to love this product. My venerable hook knife was never cleaned properly after its last use and got stowed wet with salt.:cussing:

How I found it this spring:

I simply brushed on Spotless Stainless and let it sit for a few hours. All I did was brush it on and make sure it stayed wet during this time. That's it...... No scrubbing, no buffing & no polishing.

This is what it looks like this morning:

Just a very happy customer!!!:)

We're not getting as good a result as you are. Perhaps you are more fastidious in your use.

We're beginning to switch over to prism polish for stanchions and other exterior hardware

I didn't have good results with it, either.
My question is... how do you keep it wet?
Do you keep reapplying more spotless stainless, or do you spritz it with water?

It MUST stay wet/moist or it stops working.

Here is my process:

*Must be warm. 70f minimum 80F+ is better
*Must be overcast and humid or after sun has gone down
*Keep it wet with the brush as it dries (you'll get a sense of how quickly it is drying)
*Do not dilute it with water
*You must have patience. It is slow but WILL work....

Alternatively you can drape a damp rag over it or some celophane.. It needs to be warm, it needs to remain wet and it needs time. If all three of those criteria are met it works extremely well...

This knife soaked for many hours but this was clearly a tough case. As it began to dry I would just dab with the brush again. The Hook Knife is EXTREMELY sharp thus I did not want to be manually polishing it nor did I want to take it to my buffing wheel.

Spotless stainless

I also did not have favorable results using Spotless Stainless. I followed the directions explicitly and this work was done inside a controlled environment. Spotless Stainless is one of the most dissapointing products I have ever used.

I have had success with the spotless stainless also..... all good things take time;)
to keep it wet longer, I cut the seams from plastic grocery store bags and use the plastic side panels from the bags to cover or wrap the object it after painting it with spotless stainless.... the warmer the weather, the faster it works. i used the stuff over the winter also, but it takes an unreasonably long time to do its thing in cold weather

and, although it should never be diluted with water to use, to keep it wet and to wet it again after drying, i have dipped the tips of the brush in a bowl of water and brushed it in..... it will rehydrate the product and turn it to a gel again.... I have seen no problem or diminished action in the product.
but i think it does work faster if you keep the product stirred up on the base metal.... give it a brush over every 5 minutes and you should see good results within 20 minutes....

I use it and think it is just short of a miracle, especially for those hard to reach places you can't get to to polish. One of the few products that actually lived up to what it said it would do and left me with a smile and saying wow the first time I used it. Just follow the directions.

For those that have tried but don't think it works. Keep trying! This is a splendid product that does actually perform as claimed. Even better actually.

The ultimate best result might take several attempts. Particularly if the SS has been rust stained for some time. Spotless Stainless will do wonders where more traditional methods can't resolve. One thing I have found is that the instructions "just to hose off" doesn't afford the best result. Yes hose, but also vigorous rubbing with a paint brush, or tooth brush, or cloth, or whatever, at the same time as the hosing is necessary to remove all residue of Spotless Stainless as you spray with water. Particularly if Spotless Stainless it has dried on. Otherwise, the treated area can turn brown/rust again.

Here are before/after Spotless Stainless pictures of a section of my stern pulpit tubing that had developed significant crevice corrosion pitting due to something being clamped tight by a P.O. For several years I had been unable to remove the embedded rust in the pitted area with standard metal polishes. And the result of the effort was quickly returning rust stains into the surrounding still sound SS. My switching to Spotless Stainless did remove. And also has lived up to it's passivate claim -- as the rust has not returned.

Other impossible areas to polish with traditional methods, such as the welds at my 1980 installed stanchion bases, are now looking virtually new after a few applications of Spotless Stainless.

one thing the WILL keep it from working, is any grease, wax residue, road grime, silicone residue or other barrier that will not let the product get directly to the metal and oxidation to do its thing....
the instructions should say to make sure the object has been washed with a detergent type cleaner before using it...

Wow! You should do infomercials, Maine. Nice!
Nah just giving credit where credit is due. I was pretty amazed at the results myself... I have many areas of our boat that went "unpolished" due to access issues that now shine like new... Kind of a hard product to beat but, like anything, it does need to be used properly...

How long would it take to make a fitting like this look new using a rag and some polish.......;)

Brush on, let sit, wash off....

Marine 31 Stainless Steel and Aluminum Brightening Soap, best boat metal polish, marine metal polish, marine aluminum polish,

Here is one worth looking at. Water based and goes on like soap, rinses off with water. You can do a stancion in a minute or so.
It is not really a product that re-passivates the SS or is designed to remove rust etc. like Spotless Stainless is. It is merely a "brightener" and does require some manual "buffing"..

Marine 31 is a division of Palm Beach Motoring Group (PBMG) the owners of AutoGeek.com and other detailing specific sites. This is a new brand for them as they press into the marine market a little more deeply. I may try a few of the products because I tend to like, and buy, a lot from Autogeek..
