Splicing Coaxial Cable

I accidentally cut the cable for my Datamarine depth sounder and knotmeter. It appears to be a coaxial type cable. What’s the best way to splice this cable back together and how difficult is it? Thanks

The knot meter cable has no bearing on length impedance and so can just be wired together. Usually these are not coaxial type cables. You can splice the depth sounder cable as long as there are no shorts and you do not shorten the cable which would make the sensor inaccurate.

You can splice it; you might also consider buying a small male-female multi-pin connector and using that as the "splice". It's neat, and allows you to open the cable if it ever needs to be re-run.

I would strip about 1/2 inch of each of the wires and put 1/8" shrinkable tubing in and undo the strands and slide them into each other. then solder them. Then slide the shrinkable tubing over the solder and shrink them with heat gun. The outside aluminum shield - you can wrap all 4 wires with kitchen aluminum shield then wrap all that with electrical tape. Then place 2 small tie wraps so that the tape does not undo itself. Done.
