Splice thinner braided line to thicker?

Hi all.
I'd like to splice a length of 5mm braided line (standard covered line) to an existing 3mm jib furling line.

The reason for the splice is to have thicker line at the pulling end for easier handling.

I know how to do an end to end splice with identical diameter lines.

Is there any technique for end to end splicing dissimilar diameter lines?

(Or should I just strip the covering off say 1 metre of the thin line and feed it through under the covering of the thicker line? Then stitch the "splice" together?)

which may work for 2 different diameters of double braid.
It looks different than what they show for splicing same diameter double braid lines: www.neropes.com - New England Ropes

I think adding another small line under the cover to bulk up the diameter of a double braid would be tough to do, that works well for coverless single braid lines, but it
seems to me that double braids are pretty packed full already.

If you don't already have the thinner line, you could buy some amsteel and use this method to splice it to a thicker double braid:
Splicing Amsteel to Sta-Set

You may be able to add just a cover to the 3mm
or: Home Page (maybe this could be adapted for a double braid?).

For tapered spinnaker sheets on my other boat, I use Flight Line with the cover stripped back for the section of the line that does not get handled.

Hi John,

I had a Schaefer 750 furler installed on Vegabond by a professional rigger. He installed 55 ft of "Rope-NER2090-10; 5/16" Sta-Set White-Furling line". He Removed the core from all the line that went on the drum. This works well that the drum is not over-filled and the line that you handle is of sufficient diameter to handle.
