I have purchased a spinniker for my 1977 Catalina 22. I am looking for information on rigging. Where specificaly should the ratchet blocks be located? Uphaul and downhaul location and type of rigginging? Can someone help. Is there possably a web site with this info?

I set up a Chrysler 22, Sililar to the Cat 22 for Spinaker. 1) locate the turning blocks as far aft as possible on the toe rails. Blocks with snap shackles are probably the best choice as they can be used for other things as well when not running downwind, into the sunset with that glorious colored sail... I degress 2) guy and sheet ( the lines that hold the bottom two corners ) use 3/8 line , low stretch , not nylon, about 44 feet is needed for each line. It looks really cool and will psyc out your racing buddys if you have a red line and a green line ... at the mast head a block attached outside of the forestay and able to pivot around . Halyard through this. About 3 feet below the spreaders, A small block attached for a topping lift. A block attached to the deck in front of the hatch. To locate this, tqape a number of blocks on the deck with duct tape and at night ( or with your eyes closed to simulate dark) run forward on deck barefoot. The block that you stub your toe on is in the correct location. If you stub more than one block, the one that draws the most blood. On a small boat a single loop on th emast to attach the spinaker pole to is probably enough. Tracks are useful for the racing types to keep the pole level but on a small boat you get it up and get all weight back and enjoy. Getting the 250 lb uncle to go forward to the mast to agjust teh pole up 6 inches causes the bow to plow and you lose more than you gained. Check sailnet for articles on how to run the spinny. Finallly dont let the preparations slow you down on flying this sail. I cruised for 2 years without a pole flying it from the masthead with 2 lines running back to the blocks. Found this takes the stress out of pole off Jibes.
