Have a great time with an APC . . .

We purchased an APC here on the HOW Christmas 2000. We have had a great year sailing with the APC. As you know the 23.5 has a limited jib and due to the fractional rig it is very challenging to fly a larger genoa sail. We fly the APC when reaching. It is especially useful in very light wind. We still use a symetrical spinnaker on true downwind courses. On the 23.5 I highly recommend the APC over a large genoa and it is incredibly easier to fly than the symetrical. You might want to check out the Doyle UPS (utility power sail). We have no experience with the sail but it sounds promising if you have roller furling.

Easy to buy...Easy to fly

I bought an APC from this site, and have enjoyed it very much. I asked a lot of questions, and they took the time to answer them all. Flying the APC is easy, and can be done with two people (just my wife and I on a 320). The dousing sock makes it easy to set and pull. Steve

Spinnaker

I have the Doyle ASM Spinnaker with dousing sock on my H260. It is a lot of fun to fly especially on those summer days with light winds. Beyond what was included in the "spinnaker kit" to make it easier to use, I added a couple of jam cleats aft of the blocks that are mounted on the stern rail for the spinnaker sheets. I also mounted a cleat on the stern rail to fasten the tack line. Another cleat was fastened low on the forward side of the mast to fasten the line used to control the dousing sock. These additions made the spinnaker even easier to use. All the lines can be controlled from the cockpit and the only thing that has to be done up forward is deploying the dousing sock. Some additional useful information can be found at www.cncphotoalbum.com/doityourself/spinnaker/spinnaker.htm. Good Luck Bernie

More Sailing, less motoring

Our Doyle APC means we cruise on wind power in light winds, instead of motoring. I estimate 20 percent more sailing time on a 2 week cruise of LAke Erie last summer. Go for it, it's a great sail. (Do get the sock for easy deployment/striking of the sail.) David Lady Lillie

Yeah-but...

While North's direct division has low prices, the sails are sort of a 'few-sizes-fit-all' proposition. The Doyle sails are made specifically for your boat model. There's bound to be a performance difference.
