Spinnaker winch location

On my Pearson 39-2, What is the best location for secondary winches used mostly for an asymetrical spinnaker: cabin top outside (there is already a manufacturer-placed winch pad there) or behind the primary genoa winches on the cockpit coaming (most common location for secondary winches). I have one set of cruising friends who states one would be better and another friend who would use the lateral cabin top. WHat are your all experiences, complaints. Also, where would you mount the spinnaker blocks on this boat?

Racing crew or just cruising. It makes a big difference in terms of proximity and logistics
Good point Don. Like many folks who sail with family, the boat is "multi-use"-PHRF club racing and weekend cruising with the wife and kids. So it is a compromise. What has your experience shown you?

I'm in the same dilemma you are, where to put the winches. I also have a 39-2 but, with a centerboard. The crank for the centerboard is taking up the port side of the cabin top. It would be nice to add winches to the outboard cabin top pads for winches but, if you use a dodger, there is not room for both. I'm currently in the proses of relocating the centerboard crank to add a winch and clutches to the port cabin top.

If you don't use a dodger, I would use the pads on the cabin top.
