Excuse my ignorance of flying a spinnaker, but last summer I flew my cruising spinnaker for the first time in my life. I had an ordinary hanked on jib at the time and took it down before using the spinnaker. The spinnaker was set up with about a 3 foot line attached from the clew to the bow stemhead fitting (to clear the bow pulpit I suppose) and a shackle attached to the clew at the sail, which I supposed was to be attached to the forestay. That's the way I flew it, and it seemed to work. My question is, now that I have a CDI F4 roller furler for my headsail, can I fly the spinnaker inside the furled headsail using the old jib halyard, or do I need some other set up to get the spinnaker in front of the headsail? If I use the old jib halyard setup, how do I attach the shackle on the clew of the sail to the forestay now that I have a furled geneoa there? I assume that the spinnaker must be attached both at the bow stemhead and higher up at the clew itself. Help!!
