Spinnaker torn twice

Does anyone know what brand of shakle guard or shroud guard works best on the end of the Hunter 320 spreaders? I've torn my spinnaker twice on it this season. There seems no way to attach the typical wheel guard and the rubberized thingies would seem to get more in the way, not less. Help!

Bill, why on earth is your spinnaker coming in contact with your spreaders? The spinnaker flies out in front of the boat well away from the mast. In zero air, if the spinnaker collapses on the mast there would be absolutely no load on it. Anyway, try wrapping rigging tape across the spreader ends then cover that with a couple lengths of Teflon tape. It's expensive but really works great.

We need some lessons Alan

I do agree with Alan on rigging tape on the spreaders. I have had the same problem with my Spinnaker getting caught on the spreaders. What I have found though when it does get caught. Release the spinnaker halyard about 5 to 10 feet then pull it back up again. That has helped release the spinnaker from the spreaders. I know the more practice I have with it, the less it's getting caught on the spreaders. Tim Welsh Hunter 34 S/V Cabo Wabo P.S. it's a Radial Spinnaker, not a Asymetrical

If you use a snuffer it will avoid most problems short handing your spinnaker. If not, just blow off the sheet and take the guy down the V berth hatch. With the sheet released there is no load on the sail and stuffing it below while easing the halyard works quite easily.

Thanks

The reason it gets caught, Alan, is a wind shift that suddenly puts it on a close reach. I like the idea of dropping the halyard quickly, if it doesn't make matters worse. Thanks for the input.
