Any ideas for a good place to get a not too expensive spinnaker for an Oday 23? Or suggestions on what to get?

One place to start is this web site. Capt Herring has a tie in with Doyle. Go to Parts, then sail loft and specify your boat and follow directions to get quote on new sail for your boat. Also check classified on this site for used sails.

This will give you a good reliable start. BTW, I have several Doyle sails on my other boat. Doyle has a good reputation.

Looking for a used sail? First you need to know your measurements. A used spinnaker does not have to be an exact fit. Any slightly smaller spinnaker will work fine for general use.

Two sources of used spinnakers come to mind:

http://www.baconsails.com/ (Annapolis)
and:

Since The spinnaker we needed was going to be a learning one we did not care for a good new one. So we were able to pick one off e-Bay. Looked on Craig's List also. Just don't pay to much. Many sail lofts sell used also. I think I payed $125.00 for the one we got for the O 222. It is decent with no tears or patches. It's the other gear that gets you,, pole,, up haul, down haul sheets and Halyards... that adds up too. Good Luck

RE: spinnaker

I bought a spinnaker for my Oday 23 from a guy in Tampa...off of Craig's List last month.

He sold me a 150 genoa, 150 mylar genoa, and a doyle spinnaker...all for $100 plus shipping.

Every two days or so, I would do a google search for "oday sails craigslist" and filter through the results.

I don't know a darn thing about how to rig the spinnaker and look forward to the spring to fiddle with it.

If you're still looking, shoot me an email. I have the original spinnaker that came with my boat (the red, white and blue one), as well as an original hank-on jib. I don't use the spinnaker, and have a roller furler.

Al, aka Captain Long Femur,

Which type spinnaker? Symetrical or Asymetical? Ball park price? He who sails on ice.

Lance,

Send him the money, it is a good deal. I am looking for an asymetrical. I already have a symetrical albeit small.
