I have the opportunity to acquire a slightly used asymmetric spinnaker and sock. It is a great value but it was made for a different size boat. I need to determine if the size is "close enough" for our boat. I have the Hunter 41DS which has the following measurements: P=51', I=51.5', J=13' . The spinnaker was made for a Beneteau Oceanis 381. The physical dimensions for the spinnaker are: foot= 21', luff=41', leach=44'. Tell me what you think. Could it work?

Sounds Small
We just ordered a new asymmetric for our 1987 h40. We are 39'-7" and speced at just under 18,000 pounds. Our sailmaker, Quantum, recommended (and I bought) a 1215 square foot asymmetric spinnaker. Your boat is larger than ours. I would not imagine you would want anything under 1,000 square feet. A 21 by 44 foot rectangle is only 924 square feet. While you did not give the square feet, the 21 x 41 x 44 is going to be a lot smaller than the sail recommended for our boat, a boat significantly small than yours. We sail on the Chesapeake and need a boost for our light air summer days. I'm guessing you sail Long Island Sound. You may have more wind up there so perhaps you could get by with the sail you are looking at - but ... it sounds small.

a little small
It would work, but it would be a little small. You probably wouldn't get max drive out of it. I would think you would want to be at least about 46' luff area. You don't want them sweeping the deck, but you don't want it way up there either.
