Spinnaker rigging...

What size, length, and type of line are you running for spinnaker sheets on your Catalina 30's.

How are your turning blocks rigged? I've seen blocks attached to slides on the aft end of the original genoa T-Track, turning blocks looped with Spectra onto the cockpit rail cleats to get the sheets way back there, and I've seen foot blocks in a variety of locations.

No shortage of Interwebs advice, but wanted to hear from current owners with recent experience.

I put two folding pad eyes just forward of the aft mooring cleats. To the pad eyes I attached a turning block with a snap shackle. From turning block back up to primary winch. 90 foot sheets.

Thanks for the info.

How much sheet do you still have in the cockpit when you do an outside gybe?

Great pic by the way.

Asym sheets are normally 2 times the length of the boat. 90 feet would be longer than needed.

You likely wouldn't be able to perform an outside gybe with only 2x sheets, I think...Unless both port and starboard are each 2x.

 Never mind!

LOL you caught it!

Worse possible case, on the C30 the foot of the asym can be no longer than 20.7 feet. Extended straight out from the bow (which never happens) an outside gybe would have the clew 29+21=50 feet from the block, which leaves 10 feet of a 60 foot sheet still in the cockpit.

Where does your spinnaker trimmer typically stand when you're flying the crooked kite?

On a J/109 I crew on, the trimmer stands by the windward shrouds and we rig the sheet with a turn or two on the leeward cabintop winch. The extra line length adds up.

Still haven't figured out a good trimmer position and line route on my Catalina 30 since I have a dodger with corroded zippers that make it a permanent fixture.

60 ft is right. I was going from memory. On my boat the trimmer stands in the cockpit forward of the helm and by the primary winch and looks forward under the main and then trims accordingly.
